The LOST Numbers

Episode 18 of ABC's hit TV show Lost is titled "Numbers". It first aired on March 3, 2005.

This episode of Lost centers around the mystery of the following numbers: 4 8 15 16 23 42

Hurley used the numbers to win the lottery and thus bringing a 'curse' onto him and killing/damning members of his family and others around him.

These numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 also appear on the side of a hatch at the end of the episode. They are also the numbers that were originally transmitted from the island.

"8 15"

The two numbers 8 and 15 are appearing in most every episode! Here are a few...

The airplane that crashed was Oceanic Airways Flight 815.
Kate, in her flashback, wanted to open safety deposit box #815 when robbing the bank. (Episode 12 - Whatever the Case May Be)
Charlie, in his flashback, was selling a copy machine with the model number C815. (Episode 15 - Homecoming)

I have not verified the following but have seen reference on some forums for the following:

Jin looks at his watch at 8:15?
Charlie's finger bandages show "ATE 15"? (I know about the bandages showing FATE and LATE.)
There is a house number shown with 815?
The number 815 appeared on a wall?

The number 4

The number 4 has been used in several episodes to describe the passage of time (e.g., 4 days, 4 years). It has also been used as a count of various things (e.g., 4 refills, 40 survivors, 400 knives).

"16 Years Ago"

Sixteen years ago, Leonard and his navy co-hort had been on duty stationed at a listening post in the Pacific. One night they had heard a voice transmission after a prolonged period of static. The mystery numbers they heard and later used brought bad luck on both Leonard and his friend.

The French woman and her research team were lured to the island 16 years ago by the broadcast of the mystery numbers. She then changed the message to the transmission that the survivors picked up.

The number 23

There was a reward of 23 thousand dollars for Kate.
Jack and Rose were in row 23 of the airplane.
There were originally 23 survivors from the tail section of the plane.

The number 42

Most speculation with the number 42 centers around the fact that there are currently more than that number of survivors. Will some die leaving 42 survivors in the end?

But most importantly, 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything!!!
