Week 1
I must say that the first week went much easier than I had expected.
I was able to stick with the diet the entire time. During the first
five days, I dropped a total of 10 pounds! On the third day, I had some
diarrhea followed by two days of constipation. Other than that, I've
felt great. I have felt like I have more energy and I have not been as
tired in the afternoons. Toward the end of the week, my weight loss
leveled off and I've finished the week at 255 pounds - a total of 9 pounds
less.
Week 2 to Week 17
By the end of the 17th week on the Atkins diet, I lost a total of 47
pounds! Because I found the Induction Phase easy to follow, I
continued with it. A weekly summary of my weight loss is shown below.
Of particular interest is that according to the Body Mass Index, I'm no
longer considered obese! That occurred during week 6.
Also, I was able to loose the weight without changing anything other
than my diet. I did not increase my amount of exercise or physical
activity.
Week 18 to Week 40
I'm still basically trying to stick with the Induction Phase. What
is different now is that my wife bought us a treadmill for Christmas.
During week 18, I started a regular exercise routine. Every other day,
I'm walking 2 miles at roughly 3 mph (i.e., it takes about 40 minutes).
On the days between, I'm lifting weights.
By the 21st week, I lost 52 pounds.
By the 35th week, I lost 64 pounds. I'm currently walking 2.4 miles at
3.5 mph every other day.
Week 41 and beyond
During week 41, I reached my original goal of 198 pounds! I have lost
one quarter of my original weight. My pants size has gone from a snug
40 inch waist to a loose 36 inch waist.
Now to see if I can keep the weight off. Over the last several weeks I
have transitioned to the Lifetime Maintenance phase. Stay tuned!
